CANCER SAGA: I was amused reading my obituaries – Gov Chime

AS he strode to a more relaxing seat from the exalted one where he signs the executive decisions that run Enugu State, Governor Sullivan Iheanacho Chime set the mood for the interview at the Lion Building, Enugu, his official quarters. He sat just a metre away. Our feet could have been touching if he did not cross his in a regal posture that he varied as the interview ran. His towering presence made one instantly think of a basketball professional in other climes. He was snug. He seemed to have put aside the trappings of office for the thrills of this encounter.
The handshake was firm, not beyond a clench that could have suggested bellicosity. He was in high spirits, discussing his health with unpractised frankness. “I was amused reading the reports about me, especially the several obituaries,” he said, as he went on talking about his recovery.
A long queue of guests was waiting for him. He was to conclude the day’s business by 4am and was back at work after a few hours’ sleep. It is a routine he maintains. Enugu, the challenges of re-inventing a 101-year-old city, and his joy at the opening of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport radiated as he accounted for his six years in office.
With two  years to the end of his administration, Governor Chime talked as if he was writing his handing over notes.  He bantered and countered as we talked Enugu politics, the opposition andhis position on  2015  and the race to succeed him.
“It may be interesting to know if those who opposed the building of the mall at Polo Park are not among  the  regular shoppers,” he joked  about the fiery army of opposition, whose voices are drowning in the flood of plaudits over his performance.
A lawyer by training, but  a  practical  politician dedicated to the people, he said  the matter of Nsukka (Enugu North) producing the next governor was not a promise, but an agreement  that equity and justice support. “It did not have to be written, such things are never written,” he said.
What follows is  Governor  Chime,  mostly in his own words…
2015 For Nsukka
The issue of Nsukka  producing the governor in 2015, it is actually Enugu North senatorial district – let me make the clarification before some think I mean Nsukka  town  – has evolved. Some are contesting  it;  some claim there is no agreement to that effect. I think it is more than an agreement. It is a promise that evolved from an understanding we have about  peaceful transitions in the State.
A bit of the background could help in establishing that the matter has gone beyond  promise, agreement to a case  of equity and justice. In 1999, the contest for the governorship was open to all the zones. Governor Chimaroke Nnamani won and did a second term. In 2007, it was open again. Aspirants from all the zones participated, I won. By 2011, most candidates withdrew from the contest because of the enormous support that I had. The real players in Enugu North said it made sense for me to complete two terms.
Gov. Chime
Gov. Chime
The traditional rulers, in particular, told contestants from Enugu  North that they would not get support; it was a sort of disclaimer. Nobody from the North contested in our party (PDP), but other parties fielded candidates. What I did at the town hall meeting was to re-echo what we all knew. Nobody writes such things as agreements. The most important aspect of it is the matter of equity and justice that is involved.
Governors from 1999 to date are from  Enugu East and Enugu West senatorial districts. By the time I complete my second term, Enugu East and Enugu West would have occupied the position for 16 years. Is any argument required for anyone to know that equity  and justice demand  that the next governor should be from Enugu North? I went into these details to prove that we have an agreement, a gentleman’s agreement; it is an understanding, one that would work best for the interest of our State and its peoples.
The Next Two  Years
We have spent these years laying the foundations for future governments. They have to take a cue from where we stop.  There is a blue print for developing the State. It is not about individuals, it is not centred on me as the governor. It is about the people, it is about projects that would benefit the people. I am not naming anything after myself. We are doing all we can to complete all projects. We would not burden the incoming administration with uncompleted projects.  The next two years would be used in completing projects that would firm up the foundations we laid.
Key Projects
We have done many road projects and we are continuing.  We are opening up the State, making it easier for people to move around as they explore the investment opportunities we are creating. We have also constructed roads that have shortened distances between parts of the State. The one from Abakpa Nike to Nsukka is almost finished. Once completed, the journey from Enugu to Nsukka town would be under 30 minutes, making Nsukka closer to Enugu than some  parts of Enugu. We have done more roads in Enugu North than in Enugu East.
When we were building the mall, people criticised it, the same way they criticised  other projects. It may be interesting to know if those who opposed the building of the mall at Polo Park are not among the regular shoppers. An industrial park is being built, the  state secretariat is under construction. We pulled down the buildings that had no character.   Some of the ones left date back to 1928, but they were built with stone. We are leaving them for their historical importance, again they are strong. In those cases we are renovating them.
Like the mall in Polo Park, those who screamed when we were pulling down the old structures at the secretariat, are among those amazed at the new structures replacing them. We are building a new government house. All these would be completed before we leave. Others areas that have engaged our attention are agriculture, education, industrialisation, job creation and empowerment of our people.
Diagnostic Centre
One of the earliest projects that this administration started was a diagnostic centre. It would have been commissioned before the completion of my first term. Things went wrong with the construction. We had to pull  down the building  and start again. We  are aware that no modern city  can operate without sound medical facilities. I know that some would think that we are constructing the centre because of my illness, it was conceived and was being built before I fell ill last year.
New Enugu, Centenary City
The Centenary City to mark 100 years of Nigeria is under construction. We have a Workers’ Village too in addition to some housing estates that investors are building. These are expanding the city.  We are changing the look of the city. The changes are more profound than people think. The projects we have executed have changed Enugu from a civil service city to investors’ hub.
Government   is  supporting  investors  with the provision of infrastructure.  The road networks that we have established have made access to the  new parts of the city easier. We  have revoked  lands  allocated  to some who have become speculators. There are allocations that some people got  20 to 30 years  ago and failed to develop them. We have revoked and re-allocated them. The move has resulted in  people utilising their allocations.
Financing Projects
Resources to execute our projects  have  been a major challenge. We refrain from borrowing as much as possible. What we have been doing is prudent management of the resources we get from the federation account. We operate within our resources. We have also improved our internally generated revenue.
How  Airport  Would  Help Enugu
The impact of the airport would not be limited to Enugu State. It would impact on businesses in the South East and beyond. Travellers and business people that find the airport in Enugu nearer to them would use it. So we are in a situation where people in Delta, other South South States and the North Central would use the airport.
Gov Chime
Gov Chime
We are confident that the impact would be great. The airport would facilitate  businesses and we expect that as it grows and schedules include other parts of the world, Enugu would be the major hub in this part of the country with a spread of services that would benefit other areas. The impact of an airport therefore cannot be limited, the uses that result from its presence would show and soon the impact would be obvious with the attendant multiplier effects of having such an important facility here.
Security Issues
Enugu is rated the safest State in Nigeria. The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar said so. We are still improving our security. People arriving Enugu for business or pleasure should harbour no fears. We are assisting the police in the construction of facilities for their air wing at the airport. It was one of the issues we settled with the Inspector General of Police during a visit to Enugu. The facility would be in use before the end of the year. It would be used for air surveillance of the South East zone.
Investors’ Hub
We call this city an investors’ hub and the facilities are rising to meet the challenges. The international airport (that was formally  opened yesterday)  is part of the main infrastructure that would facilitate the realisation of this ambition. We are also looking forward to the rails being resuscitated.
Our administration would  help with  the provision of land. The issues of tax holidays are determined in Abuja but we would offer any assistance that we can.    We have secured a licence for our own  cement  company. We are working with  Lafarge  on the project. The State has  proven reserves of limestone for the cement factory.
Challenges From Electricity, Water
We still have challenges with water. We are tackling them. Electricity is another area of interest for us. We have several offers that are tied to the natural resources we have. The abundant reserves of gas in Ugwuoba and coal in Amansi-Odo would serve the electricity projects well.
His Health
I am fine. I am not sick. I attend public functions. Some people insist on drawing their own conclusions. What I went through was millions of miles away from what people thought. A routine medical check revealed cancer cells, but they were benign. Since they were discovered early, they were nipped. They had not  spread. It was nothing serious and the technology for the treatment was available.
The   treatment   (chemotherapy) was harsh.  It is not something that I can describe, but I am grateful to God that I went through it successfully.  I  am recovering from  the treatment. Itaffected  my normal cells; they  are re-growing. Doctors predicted that recovery would take up to a year that is  time  for the effects of the treatment to wear off.
I was reading all the stories  about me.  I was amused reading the reports about me, especially the several obituaries. I still required  regular check-ups for evaluation of the progress  of the cell, the re-growth. The regular checks were in March, May and June.   I needed evaluation every six weeks. The most recent evaluation  showed no  signs of affected cells. I would be there again on August 30. I believe that I would not require frequent checks after that.
Next Governor’s Agenda
I cannot impose any agenda on the next administration, but   I do not  think the administration would   have much  choice  than following the blue print. We have taken the State to the pointwhere it makes sense for future governments to continue in similar directions.
The next governor would have his priorities. His  greatest  challenge would be when he deviates from programmes that would benefit the people. He would have the people to contend with not me, that is why I say that the choices available to future governments are limited to providing services to the people.  All we have done are for the people, who have learnt that government is meant to serve them. Anyone who acts to the contrary would answer to the people,  not  me.

Kanye replies President Obama’s diss

Kris Jenner really milked the interview with Kanye.(Anyone bored?)Now, she got him to respond to president Obama’s earlier diss of their lifestyle. He said ”

““Kids weren’t monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing, or where Kanye West was going on vacation, and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success.
This is what Kanye said when asked by Kris Jenner(who earlier replied..)) about his thoughts on Obama’s diss…
“So Obama basically said we’re the new American dream. I think he was posing it like I was supposed to take it in a negative way, but I’m just so happy that the president mentions me so often. Thank you very much, Obama! I do think people should want to go on vacation or travel, because that’s what opens people’s minds. When I was in 5th grade, we went to China and I lived there for a year and I could speak Chinese… Also because my dad lived in an area that was mostly white and my mom stayed in Chicago in an area that’s mostly black and has gang activity, I had to navigate all these worlds. That scope is what I brought into my creations, to the music I make, to the clothing I make. When I design a shoe with Nike, that’s mentality is what I brought. So as Obama is talking about that, yes, they’re looking at what she’s wearing and where we’re going for vacation because this is the way we relate to this new information age. There will be new people getting passports and wanting to travel. They’ll hear songs like “N—-s in Paris” and they’ll be like, “I want to be a n—a in Paris!

Chris Brown goes off on TMZ !!

Earlier this week Chris Brown went ballistic on a bunch of unnamed rappers and the District Attorney who cited him for community service fraud. Chris Brown accused the DA of being racist.

Well, last night celebrity gossip website TMZ identified the DA in the case as a black female..
"Chris Brown is the victim of a racist ass District Attorney -- so claims Chris Brow" TMZ wrote "The singer went on a twitter rant last night, ragging on authorities for calling him out for submitting bogus community service reports in the Rihanna beating case. Fun Fact -- the actual L.A. County D.A. is an African-American woman.
Brown thinks punishing men for beating women at a point is ridiculous. Beating women can be such a bitch, Chris.

Wow!!! Woman Comes Alive 13 Days After Her Own Funeral

A Philadelphia woman has shown up alive 13 days after her family buried her in an emotional  service, USA.

Sharolyn Jackson, alive 13 days after her own funeral

Sharolyn Jackson, 50, was laid to rest at Colonial Memorial Park by her devastated family on August 3, following the Philadelphia Medical Examiner signing a death certificate and releasing a body believed to be hers.
"I had to call my wife and give her the sad news over the phone you know, that they'd just found our daughter dead," her father Dave Minnie said.
But last Friday, Jackson showed up alive at a mental health facility in central Philadelphia.
Her son, Travis, passed on the good news to her father, who was overjoyed.
"You know you feel you're just about to get over it, that she's dead, then Travis comes here with the good news that she's alive," he said laughing.
Jackson was reported missing from her West Philadelphia home on July 18.
When a body of a woman fitting her description was found on July 20 on a West Philadelphia street, officials thought it could be her.
A social worker who knows Jackson, and Travis, both identified pictures of the dead woman as the missing Jackson.

Grave: There is now an investigation underway into who is buried in the grave, pictured
The Medical Examiner's Office then signed a death certificate, which allowed an undertaker to remove her body for funeral services and burial. 'They showed (Travis) black and white photos.
"It looked like her," Minnie said. The Philadelphia Health Department insists all proper procedures were followed and, with two people, including a family member, identifying her, it was following protocol to hand over the body.

Happy: Her father Dave Minnie, pictured, is thrilled his daughter is alive but he feels sad for the family of the unknown woman buried in Jackson's grave

An investigation has now been launched into whose body is in fact buried in the grave thought to be Jackson's.
Officials know the woman died from natural causes and her body was found on the street on July 20.
They are seeking an order to exhume the body in an attempt to identify the woman.
Minnie said that while he was thrilled to have his daughter back, he feel's great sorrow for the family whose loved one is buried at the gravesite.

C-O-N-F-U-S-E-D! Local terrorist Arrested.

A 25- year- old man, Ifeanyi Ofoegbu, was recently arrested by the Police in Bariga area of Lagos, for parading himself as a military man and terrorizing his neighborhood.

It was gathered that the suspect who hails from Anambra state, moved into an apartment in a compound at No. 9, Shokunbi- Bariga a few years back, and started trading in second –hand clothes which he brought from Cotonou in Benin Republic and sells them at Yaba market, Warri in Delta State and Benin in Edo State.

According to one of his neighbors who agreed to speak with Crime Guard on condition of anonymity, the suspect was a well behaved young man, who showed respect to everyone that crossed his part. This endeared him to his neighbors. All went well, until sometime in 2011, when his neighbors noticed a dramatic negative change in his character. The once adored Ifeanyi, suddenly became Ifeanyi the neighborhood terror.
“When Ifeanyi moved into this compound a couple of years ago, other neighbors referred to him as my son, and that was how I took interest in him. We all admired him because of his respectful character; he played with the children and bought gifts for them. There was never a dull moment in the compound when ever he was around. About two years ago, we noticed a sudden change in his character.

“He became violent and fought any body that he thought provoked him, irrespective of who the person was. Even the children in the neighborhood were not spared. He beats them up at the slightest excuse, and waits for their parents or guardian to accost him, during which he will either pick up a bottle or any dangerous object in sight, threatening to use it on them. He boasted loudly that nothing would happen to him, as he was a military man.

“This baffled us, because we did not know when he joined the army. We knew him as a second hand clothes dealer who shuttled between Cotonou and Nigeria. He also stopped his trading at that point. Most times when he wants to make trouble, he would put on a military uniform and would intimidate and assault people. We avoided him due to this. The Landlord invited his elder brother on several occasions to caution him, but his efforts went futile. At one instance, Ifeanyi chased his elder brother out of the compound, warning him not to ever come advising him again, if he wants to be at peace with him,”stated the elderly man.
Arrest
Crime Guard gathered that the incident that led to his arrest was based on a clash with the Landlord of the house and other tenants over the disconnection of electricity in their apartment on the 15th of August, 2013. Before then, the suspect had allegedly attacked some children playing near a fish pond in the compound. He reportedly told the landlord that if he failed to call the children to order, he would snuff life out of them and dump their bodies in the pond.
According to another neighbor who also spoke on condition of anonymity, “On the 14th of August 2013, a neighbor moved out of the compound and in the process of removing his air conditioner, disconnected some of the electrical wires. This affected some of the rooms as they had to go without light until it was re-connected.
The next day, being the 15th of August, Ifeanyi returned from where ever he went to and, instead of cooperating with the Landlord and affected tenants to find a solution to the development, he went to the circuit and removed the fuss, thereby disconnecting the whole occupants of the building.. Knowing who he was, some of us pleaded with him, but he would not listen.
“This prompted the Landlord to call in the Police. When the Police arrived, he went and put on his military uniform. He refused to re-connect the wire when the Police asked him to do so, nor go to the station with the Police, claiming that as a military man, he can not answer to any other authority except his Commandant. He also refused to show an identity card to buttress his claims.
The Police left after ordering him to report to the station in two hours. He went there and claimed he was a private in the military attached to Ikorodu division, but dispatched to Somolu/Bariga area to help maintain peace and order. The DPO then placed a call across to the Commandant at the water side, who said he does not have any body that goes by that name among his men. After some insistence on the phone with the Military officer that he was attached to his Command, the officer drove down to the Police station to see things for himself. In fact, there was jubilation in the neighborhood after he was arrested by the police, “he said.
Drama
Crime Guard gathered that there was mild drama at the Bariga Police station when the water side Military Commandant got to the station and was confronted with an unknown face. Seeing that his game was up, the culprit gave in and confessed that he was not in the Military. This made the DPO to order his immediate arrest and detention.
The culprit, thereafter, led some Police men to his abode where various ATM cards belonging to other individuals and some military camouflage uniforms and some parks of India hemp were recovered. The case has since been charged to court and he was subsequently sentenced to prison after he pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him.

BREAKING NEWS: Human Rights Lawyer Mike Ozekhome Kidnapped

Kidnappers in Edo State struck in the afternoon yesterday in the southern parts of Edo state, seizing renowned human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome.

Edo state officials told Saharareporters that Mr. Ozekhome was kidnapped by armed gangs prowling the Benin -Auchi road around 3:00 PM at Ehor near Ekpoma.
The kidnappers have not made any contacts with Mr. Ozekhome's family.
However, Public Interest Lawyers League, an NGO based in Abuja Nigeria has condemned the kidnap of Mr. Ozekhome stating that his seizure by unknown gunmen was due to the growing insecurity in Edo and Nigeria in general. Astatement signed by PILL's president, Abdul Mamhud, urged the kidnappers to free Mr. Ozekhome immediately.
The statement described Mr. Ozekhome as a "suave, outspoken Lagos lawyer whose contributions to constitutional and public laws are well two known."
Mr. Ozekhome who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria hails from Edo State.

Ice Prince And Show Promoter At War

photo
Ice Prince is in the news again but now, not for a good reason. Just after the news of his BET award which he received in an ‘empty hall’ made waves recently, the artiste has been accused of not performing in a show which he was allegedly paid for in Paris.
The singer, as Saturday Beats gathered, was allegedly billed to put up a 10pm appearance at the Salons and Wilson Club in Paris last Saturday. However, he didn’t show up till it was 6am the next day.
Obviously irked by the act’s behaviour, fans took to twitter and blasted the singer the social media.
However, the singer, in his twitter handle, apologised to his fans and blamed his act on the show promoter. He said, “Apologies to the fans that came out last night. A better promoter will put up a better show soon.”
And of course, someone who claimed  to be close to the show promoter, Onyeka Nwelue, didn’t take this lightly. He too went on twitter and blasted the singer, calling him unprintable names.
In any case, when Saturday Beats reached out to Chocolate City, Ice Prince’s label, to ascertain what really went wrong in Paris, a member of staff of the label, Ibukun Abidoye, said Chocolate City wasn’t ready to comment on the rift.
“I am sure you will hear from us very soon. We are going to issue a press release concerning the issue,” she said.

How Children Born In Kirikiri Prisons Live

In the cell block reserved for nursing mothers and pregnant inmates at the Kirikiri Female Prison, Lagos, toddlers clung to their mothers’ chests. They observed newsmen, when they visited last week Saturday, with a bemused expression on their young faces.
By Kunle Falay
photo
They are in prison because their mothers are inmates. Apparently, they weren’t aware of a better life out there. They probably thought it was normal to be confined only to the four walls of the prison. No friends, no birthday parties, no relationship at all with other children outside the prison walls. They are victims of circumstances and will remain so until they are 18 months old.
These children – nine of them – were born within the walls of the prison. They live a regimented life; one brought about by the fact that in prison, rules are meant to be obeyed. When to sleep, when to eat, when to wake up, when to switch off the light and when to put it on are all regulated by prison authorities and this is the life these children have been born into.
The children are all below 18 months, so they could not interact verbally with our correspondent during the visit, which was aimed at shedding light on their lives.
“When the children are a year and half old (18 months), the mothers have to let them go. That is the regulation. Families of the inmates take the children away and take care of them till the mother gets out,” spokesperson of the Nigerian Prisons Service in Lagos, Mr. Biyi Jeje, had explained to Saturday PUNCH.
When the gate to the main yard of the prison swung open on the day our correspondent visited, dozens of inmates were seen doing their laundry on the grassy open ground.
Chattering while some were laughing, the inmates (the prison officials forbade them being called prisoners) were cheerful. An official of the prison told Saturday PUNCH why.
“They have the opportunity of doing their laundry once in a week. It is like a social time for them. They are able to wash their clothes and beddings and interact more,” the officials said.
A prayer and counseling session was ongoing in another part of the prison. A dozen inmates in white prison-style gown clapped and sang in a small hall, thanking God for life and good health.
Our correspondent was ushered into the cells of the nursing mothers.
A couple of them shared a small cell with bunk beds and the others shared a bigger one.
Twenty five-year-old Shade (not real name) had her five-month-old baby boy in her arms when our correspondent entered the cell she shared with five other nursing mothers. Prison officials were also in tow.
It was not eating time, so newsmen could not observe how the children were fed.
“You can ask them any question so far as it has nothing to do with why they are here and you protect their identities. We don’t want trouble from their lawyers,” an official said.

(PHOTO): Gay Arrested, Beaten To A Pulp In Ogun State

 sadiq
There was chaos at Kotodayo community in Ota, Ogun State after a young man, simply identified as Sadiq was alleged to be gay and beaten up.
The incident happened at 1 Kotodayo in the Iyana-Iyesi area of Ota after Sadiq’s friend, Ibrahim (surname withheld), allegedly raised the alarm declaring that his male organ had disappeared.
According to Ibrahim, who was seen unclad before some men, Sadiq had paid him a visit last night and deep into the night, he began to have s*x with him.
When P.M.NEWS visited the scene, Ibrahim’s man-hood was of normal size, but he was making efforts to make it turgid as a proof that it was fully restored.
Ibrahim, who is also a squatter in the house, alleged that it was the first time Sadiq would be visiting him. Though they have been friends for some time now, Ibrahim said he never knew his friend was gay until last night.
Sadiq, in a confessional statement to local vigilantes at the scene of the incident, said he has been homosexual for the past three years.
He denied snatching his friend’s male organ, but said he had engaged only men in s*x since then and further indicted a prophet whose white garment church is within the community as the one who prepared the concoction with which he engages in the act.
However, the prophet, who was invited by the vigilantes, denied the allegation.
He said he had known Sadiq as one who never chased after women and did not know that the man was gay.
Neighbours said that the owner of the one-room apartment where the incident occurred lives and works in Lagos and only visits the place at weekends.
Sadiq was later whisked away by the vigilantes after much plea to stop beating him was rebuffed by the people of the area.
Nigeria is not in support of gay practice no wonder a bill has been approved setting 14-year-jail term for offenders.

I Didn’t Sleep With Beverly – Angelo

Though it is widely believed that the South African housemate, Angelo, had sex with the Nigerian housemate, Beverly, in the ongoing Big Brother Africa reality show, the dreadlocked guy has denied it. He said they were ‘just kissing’.Speaking to Saturday Beats on the phone earlier in the week, after being evicted from the show, Angelo said, “We didn’t have sex. We talked about it. There were some things I said I wasn’t going to do in the house.
I respect my mum so much. Before I got into the house, there were things I told my mummy I wasn’t going to do. I wasn’t butt naked. It looked as if we were having sex in that bathtub. We were just kissing. I couldn’t take advantage of Beverly because I respect her so much.”
Respect is not the only thing Angelo has for the Nigerian lady. Angelo also confirmed that he is in love with her and intends to pursue the relationship.
“We will try and work things out and see how we can make our relationship work. At the same time, I hope the people of Nigeria don’t hate Bev. I would love to come to Nigeria and experience Nigerian culture and take lots of pepper,” he said.
Now that he is out of the house, so many people feel the South African will go back to the girlfriend he left behind before BBA. But he said he wasn’t in any relationship before he got into the show.
“I didn’t have a girlfriend before I got into the house, but I had someone I told to wait for me so that we would see what would happen when I get out of the house. I will be focused on what I want to do as a person and then focus on my relationship with Bev and see where we will take it to,” he said.
No matter his feelings for Beverly though, Angelo said he hopes Melvin, the other Nigerian housemate, comes out tops in the show.

Gunmen Kill 44 In Fresh Borno Attacks

Insurgents in a reprisal attacks on Dumba Village in Borno State have killed 44 people. The community is on the outskirts of Baga town in Kukawa local government area.
Sources told LEADERSHIP Weekend yesterday that the fresh killings took place on Tuesday night, but could not be reported because of the location of the area.
It was learnt that 50 gunmen stormed the village which is a few kilometres from Baga and killed the victims and injured several others.
It was also gathered that the gunmen set ablaze several houses in the village
The assailants allegedly removed the eyes of some of the victims while some were decapitated.
A rescue worker told LEADERSHIP Weekend that the village came under attack late on Tuesday when the gunmen stormed the settlement and killed victims when they were asleep.
‘’As am speaking to you now, Red Cross officials and the Medicine Frontiers are attending to the injured victims,’’ an aide worker said.
An official of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) who confirmed the incident, said the it had mobilised to the area to assist the survivors.

How Bishop, Pastor, Defrauded 68-Year-Old Woman

Queen Emegha Ozuke, business woman and founder of a reputable nursery, primary and secondary school in Kubwa town of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), speaks to CHRIS OGBOR on her ordeal in the hands of some fake men of God
It is an irony that Queen Emegha Ozuke, who is supposed to be enjoying the dividend of being one of the pioneer visitors to Abuja after its creation by Decree No. 6 of 1976 and should be reaping the fruits of her labour, is rather in a dilemma as a result of the nefarious activities of some dubious ministers of the gospel.
Emegha Ozuke, who hails from Igbanke in Edo State and has been living in Abuja since 1979, said she was one of the contractors that supplied Dumez (Nig.) Limited elephant grass which the company used for erosion control while constructing roads in various parts of the Federal Capital City (FCC) in the 1980s. As a pioneer settler and business woman, she was allocated plots of land in Deidei, Jikwoyi, Kubwa, Kurudu, et al in the FCT and established a primary-cum-secondary school in Kubwa town.
According to the 68-year-old woman:  “My problem started when my beloved daughter, Patience got married to Mr Etumudon Godwin and later had a baby. Because she was nursing a child, Patience’s husband introduced a lawyer known as Abdullahi Ibrahim to me to serve as legal adviser of my school.”
Ozuke disclosed that in September 2008, Abdullahi borrowed the sum of N1million from her late daughter (Patience) on the pretext that he was going to use it to execute  contract at the police headquarters in Abuja. She added that Abdullahi promised that he would pay back the money with interest on the 17th day of October 2008, but has not done so up till now.
She also said Abdullahi in turn introduced to her, one Pastor Alani Alex, general overseer of Creative Faith International Gospel Centre who was said to be looking for a place to use as branch of his church. She said that Alex eventually rented a large hall in her school compound and paid rent for the first year, 2009. He also did some repair work on a 3-bedroom flat annexed to the school for use by his church.
LEADERSHIP Weekend, however, gathered that Ozuke reached an agreement with the pastor to stay in the school compound for three years (2009-2012) only, and to go with her to the market to purchase all building materials necessary for the renovation work for record purposes, but that the pastor bought the materials without her knowledge.
At the end of the three years agreed, Ozuke said, “Pastor Alex refused to vacate my premises except I refunded to him the sum of N4.1 million which he alleged he spent on the renovation of the property.”
An eviction notice to Pastor Alex, dated July 26, 2013 and from Ozuke’s lawyer, Barrister S. O. Peters reads: “Very sadly, contrary to the terms of the understanding and agreement you have with our client, you have willy nilly decided to overstay the three (3) years fixed duration and even went further to forcefully annex some other parts of the school and against our client’s consent decided to make use of the building as part of your worship centre. To make and use someone else’s property without the consent and permission of the owner of the property under the guise of religion is to portray the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in bad light …”
Reacting to the allegations referred to in the letter when LEADERSHIP Weekend met him on Sunday, August 18, 2013, Pastor Alex insisted that he paid a sum of N450,000 to Madam Ozuke in 2009 for the use of the hall and spent an additional N4.1 million for renovation work on the property.
The pastor, who said he built the school hall because there was no structure on ground when he started worshipping at the premises, said he would vacate the place whenever Ozuke refunds the N4.1 million to him. He also said he was willing to have an architect or quantity surveyor assess the extent of work done and expenses  incurred during the renovation.
The bursar of the school, Mr Emmannuel Odiniya, however, said there was existing structure in the school compound, adding that the clergyman actually roofed the hall and did renovation work on the uncompleted building. He also disclosed that the pastor is currently making use of a classroom in the school as his children church, adding that he (the pastor) promised to deduct the rent in respect of the classroom from the money Ozuke would pay to him.
Another ‘man of God’ who allegedly defrauded Ozuke of several millions of naira is Bishop Promise Dibie, a former lecturer at College of Education, Agbor in Delta State but now with College of Education, Zuba in the Federal Capital Territory.
In 2008, according to Ozuke, “Bishop Dibie and his mother (Theresa) approached me that they needed a place in Abuja to establish their church and I showed them my plot of land No. D41 at Zaudan, Pazeri and Sabon Gari Layout near Deidei, for temporary use.
“I thought Bishop Dibie and his mother were true preachers of the gospel because they prayed fervently and spoke in tongues each time they visited me. So I drew closer to them and regarded them as family friends, not knowing that they are sheep in wolves’ clothing”, Ozuke said with tears streaming down her eyes.
She also disclosed that while her daughter (late Patience) and her husband (Godwin) were seriously ill, she asked Dibie to sell her 18-seater bus and a plot of land on Arab road, Kubwa, to defray their medical bills.
“Bishop sold the bus for N500,000 and the plot of land for N2.5 million to one Pastor Sam of Christ’s Victorious Church, Kubwa, bringing the total amount to N3million but unfortunately, my daughter died two weeks after the death of her husband and few days after the sale of the property. When I asked Bishop to give me the N3 million, he promised to do so after the burial ceremony of my daughter.
She also claimed, “Pastor Sam also robbed me of N200,000 on the pretext that he would supply machine for printing of exercise books to my school. Sadly, up till date, neither has Pastor Sam nor Bishop Dibie  refunded the money to me”, Ozuke lamented.
Madam Ozuke also told LEADERSHIP Weekend that Bishop Dibie stole photocopy of her document in respect of her plot of land in Jikwoyi, sold it to one Dr Ademola Adeyinka through a female lawyer for N4million and instead, paid N1.6 million into her account.
“I, however, paid back the N1.6 million to Bishop Dibie and sold the land by myself, to a civil servant”, Ozuke disclosed.
In his reaction, Dr Ademola Adeyinka in a telephone chat with LEADERSHIP Weekend, said he reported the matter to the police at Jikwoyi police station on Thursday, June 26, 2013, adding that Bishop Dibie is yet to refund the N4 million he defrauded him of through the female lawyer who allegedly posed as the rightful owner of the land.
Asked why he has not collected his money from the Bishop or the female lawyer since the past four years, Adeyinka said, “I am a very busy man, I am taking my time, but be rest assured that by God’s grace, I must get back my N4 million”.
Concerted efforts by LEADERSHIP Weekend to get the response of Bishop Dibie have not been successful because some of his colleagues at the College of Education, Zuba said he travelled abroad a few months ago, to  pursue his masters degree programme at Coventry University in the United Kingdom.
LEADERSHIP Weekend also gathered from an unimpeecable source in Agbor, Delta State that Bishop Dibie fraudulently collected the sum of N1.3 million from Messrs Udoka and Nduka on the pretext of issuing them visas to travel to Europe. Our source further revealed that the victims dragged the Bishop to the police in Agbor where he gave each of them N300,000 with a promise to refund the balance, but has not done so up till now.
In their reactions to the nefarious activities of ‘new generation’ men of God in Nigeria, two elders of a Pentecostal church (names withheld), who are aware of Madam Ozuke’s predicaments, wondered why Pastor Alex would still be preaching and asking people to repent of their sins when he was yet to vacate the premises of the 68-year-old woman after the expiration of his tenancy, and why Bishop Dibie, an overseer of St Peter’s Christ Army Church  of Nigeria in Agbor, Delta State, has refused to pay her the N3 million he realised from the sale of her property since 2009.
