NABTEB/HOUSE OF SENATE BATTLES OVER COST OF SCRATCH CARDS!!!

THE Senate Committee on Education, on Monday, queried the National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB) for spending a total sum of N410 million as cost of printing scratch cards for the May/June and November/December 2012 examinations.
The Registrar/Chief Executive of NABTEB, Dr Olatunji Aworanti, had, whileaddressing the committee, which was on a tour of federal education institutions in Edo State, said the amount was embedded in the examination charges for the over 300,000 students who wrote the examinations conducted by NABTEB in 2012.
Dr Aworanti, while giving clarifications on a question raised by a member ofthe committee, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, explained that since the board was not empowered to operate its printing facility, it had to go into partnership with a private printing firm to provide scratch cards.
The registrar, however, solicited the support of the committee in theprovision of infrastructural facilities, adding that the recent reduction in thepersonnel cost of the board from N80 million to N67million was affecting payment of salary for the 648 members of staff of the board.
Chairman of the Senate Committee,Senator Uche Chukwumerije, while speaking on the challenges facing NABTEB, said the committee would provide the necessary support to NABTEB, adding that Nigerias development partly depended on theprovision of technical education.

Kanu Loses N1.4 Billion In Hotel Business; Manager Arrested For Fraud

Kanu Loses N1.4 Billion In Hotel Business; His Managing Director, MD Arrested For Fraud
Kanu Loses Billions Of Naira In Hotel Business; Hardley Suites Manager Arrested For Fraud
Former Nigerian footballer Nwankwo Kanu has lost N1.4 billion in his hotel business and the Managing Director of the hotel, Mr. Ayoola Gam Ikon, 49, has been arrested and charged to courtfor the alleged fraud.
Operatives of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit arrested Ikon, the managing director of Hardley Suites Limited situated at Waziri Ibrahim Crescent, off Elsie Femi Pearse Street, Victoria Island, Lagos southwest Nigeria, for allegedly stealing the N1.4 billion belonging tothe hotel and suites owned by Kanu.
Also arrested along with him over the alleged fraud is a hotel staff, Oke Samuel.
They were arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates court on a 19-count charge of felonyto wit, obtaining money under false pretence.
The police alleged in charge suit No. K/8/2013 that Ikon was arrested following a complaint by the management of Hardley Suites Limited, Nwankwo Kanu and Ogbonna Kanu, that Ikon between 2005 and 2012 allegedly defrauded them of the sum of about N1.4 billion on the pretence ofusing the money to expand the existing facilities of the hotel by constructing and furnishing of additional blocks of 30 suites and conference facilities, but he allegedly failed to use the moneyfor the purpose and allegedly converted the money to his personal use.
He was also alleged to have forged a special resolution purportedly made by the board of directors of Hardley Suites Limited to obtain loans of N187 million, N50 million and N493 million from Skye Bank Plc without authorization.
The offences, the accused allegedly committed, according to the prosecutor A.M. Animashaun, contravenes sections 8 (a) 1 (a) of the advanced fee fraud and other fraud related offences Act 2006 as applicable in Lagos State.
The accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The prosecutor presented before the court an application for the remand of the accused personsin prison custody pending advice from the office of the directorate of public prosecution, DPP, because the lower court lacks the jurisdiction to try the matter.
But the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Oshin overruled him with legal facts after quoting copiously from several sections of the criminal justice administration laws of Lagos State to buttress her claim that the court has the jurisdiction to hear and admit the accused to bail.
She admitted the first defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
One of the sureties must be the defendant himself, the other should be a civil servant on level 16.
She also admitted the second defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must be a level 16 civil servant while the other must be working with a reputable company.
She adjourned the matter till 4 April, 2013 for mention.
The defendants were, however, moved to Ikoyi Prison, Lagos pending when they would fulfil the bail conditions.

Power Outages At Lagos InternationalAirport Caused By Faulty Backup Generators- Engineers

Power Outages At Lagos International Airport Caused By Faulty Backup Generators- Engineers
Power cuts have caused series of near-tragic landings at the Lagos airport, in southwest Nigeria, over the past few days, passengers aboard the lucky planes have said. And the two electricity generators serving the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, have broken down, thus compounding the situation.
On Monday night, as an Emirates Flight EK781 was about to land, a sudden power cut struck, forcing the pilot to divert the plane to Lome, capital of Togo, a neighbouring West .
The Emirates plane, an Airbus A340-500, had arrived from Dubai, United Arab Emirates and hadalready received clearance for landing from the traffic controllers when the near accident happened at about 7.44 pm, reports said.
The plane, it was learnt, returned to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, several hours later and made a safe landing at about 11p.m.
A few minutes after, passengers said, there was another power outage at Nigerias gateway. The incident was almost a repeat of what happened to aKenyan Airways flight on Saturday night.
The Kenyan Airways had come from Nairobi, Kenya, and had arrived the Lagos airport at about9p.m. in complete darkness.
The blackout was total, said a passenger onboard the plane.
The experience I had on Saturday was very difficult. The runway light at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos was switched off. Thearrival hall was dark and the immigration officials were using torchlight to work. I even wanted to talk with the pilot but it was too dark and I couldnt see her.
The passenger, a frequent traveller, pledged anonymity but called on Nigerian authorities to come clean with the truth.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mr. Yakubu Datti, said that rain storms were to blame.
He also admitted that since the generator house was blown off last year, it had not been fixed andthe water penetrated the panels.
As a result, he said, the panels were soaked and could not transmit power to the E-wing of the terminal building.
He said: The heavy rain storm that occurred in Lagos yesterday, March 4, disrupted power supplyto the Murtala Muhammed Airport for about six minutes due to a power surge from the two main PHCN power supply sources to the airport.
The airport is connected to two main power sources from Ejigbo and Egbin power stations.
Datti said the storm initially knocked off the powersupply from Ejigbo which led to a three-minute outage at the airport before FAAN engineers switched over to the alternate power supply source from Egbin. That supply line was later affected by the storm, leading to another three minute power outage, he said.
Our engineers then switched over to the airports standby generators, some panels of which were unfortunately soaked with water, due tothe heavy flooding that resulted from the heavy rainfall.
This resulted in a blackout at the E wing of theairport, including the avio bridges. It was for thisreason that arriving passengers on an international flight were processed through an alternative route at the terminal and in the process, were exposed momentarily to the rain, he said.

Lil Twist WRECKS Justin's Fisker Then Flees

If Justin Bieber continues to trust Lil Twist with his ultra-expensive cars, then he deserves what he gets, because TMZ has learned Twist had yet another mishap, and this one involves a hit and run. We've learned Lil Twist was driving Justin's chromed-out Fisker Karma Tuesday, just after 6PM, when he crashed into cement poles protecting a wall at a San Fernando Valley liquor store ... damaging the poles and badly damaging the front-end of the car.Sources tell us ... either Twist or one of his passengers told an eyewitness, "Do you know whose car this is? It's Justin Bieber's car."  We're told a few minutes later, a BMW roared up to the parking lot and the driver told Twist and the passengers, "Get all the pieces from the car [that fell] and put it in the car [the BMW]."  After putting the Fisker parts in the BMW, the 3 men took off in the BMW, leaving the Fisker behind.Sources say one of the 2 passengers was Chris Brown.  His reps have not confirmed or denied.FYI -- it's a crime to leave the scene of an accident that causes injury or property damage without exchanging info with the victim -- in this case the liquor store owner.  We're told this was NOT done. You'll recall ... Twist also caused thousands of dollars worth of damage when he bottomed out Justin's Ferrari in the Four Seasons Hotel parking lot.  And Twist was speeding in Justin's Ferrari January 1st when he was stopped by the CHP.  A photog died while taking pics of the scene.Justin -- don't be an idiot.  Cut him off.UPDATE:  8:17 PM PT... Chris Brown's people just got back to us and said he wasn't in the car and wasn't even in town the day of the crash.

ustin Bieber "getting better" after collapsing at London gig

anadian teen pop star Justin Bieber tweeted that he was "getting better" after collapsing on stage from shortness of breath during a performance in London and being rushed to the hospital on Thursday.

Bieber's spokeswoman, Melissa Victor, told Reuters that the singer had fainted on stage at his concert at London's O2 arena and had been taken backstage where he took a 20 minute break and was given oxygen by doctors.

Bieber, 19, returned to the stage after the break and his representatives said he was OK. Victor said the "Boyfriend" singer ignored doctors orders and returned to the O2 Arena stage to finish the performance.

The singer tweeted to his 35 million Twitter followers following the incident, "thanks for everyone pulling me thru tonight. best fans in the world. figuring out what happened. thanks for the love."

His manager, Scooter Braun, told audiences at the arena after the singer's collapse that Bieber was "very light of breath, the whole show he has been complaining," in amateur videos posted on the Internet.

Bieber had not been suffering from any health issues prior to the show, the spokeswoman added.

Fans quickly began circulating the hashtag "#justintakeabreak" on Twitter after news of his collapse spread on the social network.

This is not the first time Bieber has collapsed on stage during a performance. He previously suffered a concussion during a concert in Paris last June after falling into a glass wall.

Bieber's London leg of his sold out "Believe" world tour hasn't been without its problems.

On Tuesday, the first of his four nights at London's O2 Arena, Bieber angered fans by turning up on stage nearly two hours late, blaming technical issues for his delayed performance.

Media outlets also reported that the singer, who celebrated his 19th birthday in London last week, tried to take 14-year-old Jaden Smith, son of actor Will Smith, to a club, where he was turned away, along with Bieber and his entourage.

Bieber took to Twitter and Instagram to vehemently deny the reports that he tried to take underage Smith to a club, saying instead that he was forced to leave the venue when the club's security guards club behaved aggressively towards his fans who were lined up outside.
