Six
youths were set on fire with petrol by a middle-aged man on the night
of August 6, 2013 in Ago-Oko area of Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State.
According
to the witness of the inhumane crime the victims were allegedly
gamblers. They were in the compound of that man and, despite all the
warnings by him, urging them to go away, they continued to gamble there.
Attacked identified as Saburi Seteolu, Raheem Bello, Tunde Adesanya, Suleiman Adebesin, Azeez Alabi and Kola Sodehinde.
Confirming
the incident to our correspondent today, Ogun State Police Command
spokesman, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi said, though,the police were trying to
ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident, “information
available to us is that the suspect had an argument with the youths
before he poured PMS on them in Ago-Oko area. And I can confirm to you
that he is cooling his heels in our custody now..
“For
now, we cannot ascertain other circumstances that led to the incident
but we have the suspect in our custody and we are working hard to untie
what led to it”, he said.
Adejobi
further stated that the State Police Commissioner, CP Ikemefuna Okoye,
has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter, adding that
the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation into the
matter was concluded.
Four
of the victims have been admitted at the emergency unit of the State
Hospital, Ijaiye Abeokuta while others were taken to an undisclosed
private hospitals around the area.
