A farmer, Bashiru
Oseni (35), was reportedly clubbed to death while trying to separate a
couple, who are his uncle’s tenants in a fight in Gbonkan village,
Ipapo, Oyo State.
It was gathered that the murder suspect, Kojovi, a Benenoise, had engaged his wife in a brawl over an allegation of flirting and adultery on Thursday, August 8. He reportedly accused the woman of sleeping with some of their farm hands and was beating her, when Oseni, nephew to the Baale (village head) came to rescue her.
But, the enraged suspect allegedly violently pushed the deceased down and hit him with the wooden handle of a big hoe until he started bleeding on the head. The deceased died instantly.
The incident attracted neighbours and the landlord, Chief Muraina Adekunle, who reported the incident at the Otu Police Station. Kojovi was later arrested and is being detained by the police.
The state police Public Relations Officer, Bisi Clet-Ilobanafor, confirmed the story and said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), for further investigations.
She added that the suspect would soon be charged to court.
